Meeting Bulletin for October 10, 2023
President Tori welcome all where: We’re more than a Club… We’re a family!
Our international theme for 2023-2024 is “Create Hope in The World.” Our Club’s theme is “Help locally and have fun.”
Heather as greeter shared a few memory jokes in honor of our guest speaker:
* I have the memory of an elephant. I remember one time I went to the zoo and saw an elephant!
*Her son wrote: Why did the chicken cross the road? I don’t know. I don’t remember.
*Bruce shared Save the date for Cops & Gobblers on Nov 19th at 9am. The goal is 500 baskets! MVPSF seeks funding and stuffed animals.
* Club Holiday party is December 9th at 6pm, at Le Petit Bistro. Mark your calendar.
Guests: We were joined by three Rotaractors from Phnom Penh, capital city of Cambodia. They attended the Rotary International convention in Houston, Texas, a year and half ago and had a great experience. They are now exploring the Mountain View area. Tori exchanged a Rotary duck for a Angkor Wat souvenir.
Speaker - Elizabeth Edgerly, PhD, the Executive Director, Alzheimer's Association shared: The New Era of Treatment for Alzheimer's: What you need to know.
Elizabeth Edgerly, Ph.D., is Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern California & Northern Nevada, as well as a clinical psychologist. Dr. Edgerly joined the Association in 1995 as chief program officer, managing care and support programs for persons with dementia, their families and professionals. In 2016, Dr. Edgerly became the chapter’s executive director, overseeing 11 offices throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada. In 2017, Elizabeth was promoted to act as regional leader for the Alzheimer’s Association, overseeing her chapter as well as two others serving Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. Her work focuses on improving the timely detection and diagnosis of dementia and access to quality care and treatments for all impacted. She is a 2023 winner of the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 100 Women of Influence for her work on behalf of thousands of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and related disorders.
Over the past two months, the FDA has approved a drug for Alzheimer’s with more innovations on the horizon. Elizabeth shared Alzheimer’s Association mission is ‘People and Science’ with $360 million of active funding for research. She shared facts about dementia and that Alzheimers is a type of dementia that is caused by complex brain changes followed by cell damage. The association has a 12 warning sign chart to assist with identifying if a person should consider seeing a medical professional for further testing. We are lucky in the Bay Area as Stanford has the latest approved drug to remove amyloid from the brain to reduce the progression of Alzheimers.
