Meeting Notes -- November 7, 2023
Mountain View Rotary Club Meeting
November 7, 2023

Scott announced he was subbing for President Tori who was running late from a business meeting. He reminded all of the Rotary International Theme: “Create Hope in the World.” Paul Reinhart led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bill Maston shared a thought for the day.

Guests
Bruce introduced Jamir Dusman, visiting from Trinidad, where he is a member of the Princes Town Rotary Club. Jamir shared information about Rotary in Trinidad and in his Rotary district.

Announcements
Scott shared highlights of the month-long trip he and Joan took to Innsbruck, Austria and to southern Spain. Scott also reported on a visit he and Joan made to hear Bert and Ann Raphael play their instruments at the monthly “jam” of the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association. They each did a great job!

Tom shared that he spoke recently at the Los Altos Rotary Club and reported that they are now bringing their own lunches to their weekly meeting. Judy attended and said that Tom did a wonderful job speaking.

Club Business
Tori arrived and handled club business. The sign-up sheet for the December 9th Rotary Holiday Party was passed around. The party will be at Le Petite Bistro, same as last year. There is a choice of four entrees. The Madrigal Chorus from Mountain View High School will once again entertain us.

Tori discussed the annual crab feed, currently scheduled for the Buddhist Temple on Saturday, February 3rd. The issue was finding someone to be the general chair for the event. After discussion, Bill Maston agreed to fill this role. It appeared that all club members were willing to assist in crab feed committee roles and to help on the day of the event.

Speaker
Cathy Merrill introduced Jay Vyas as the speaker. Jay is from Mumbai, India, is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Mumbai Versova, and was president of that club 1999-2000. He has been in the Silicon Valley area speaking to a variety of groups, sharing his passion about the benefits of solar energy. He has been working on “Reverse-Aging the Globe” – a mission in creating awareness about restricting the rise in global temperature. Jay highlighted what is happening with solar development in India and what impact that will have on mitigating climate change. Club members asked several questions.

Closing
Tori thanked Jay Vyas for speaking. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
