Mountain View Rotary Club Meeting
March 19th & 26th, 2024
Rotary Speech Contest
There is great news for the Mountain View Rotary Club and the annual Rotary Speech Contest. In addition to winning our own club competition, our winning student went on to win the Region Rotary Speech Contest!
Our Mountain View Rotary Speech Contest was held at our club meeting on March 19th. Six outstanding students from the MVLA HS District Speech & Debate program competed. The winners were as follows:
1st Place ($150) - Nora Soraci-Alonso; 2nd Place ($100) Isabela Margain; 3rd Place ($75) Naiel Chaudry; Awards of Excellence ($25 each) went to Nishka Gollamudi, Jannat Bhatia, and Krishiv Bhatia.
On March 19th we had some great Rotary volunteers participate. Alex Amoroso, Jack Wong, and Cathy Merrill were judges. Bert Raphael was the timer. Margaret Abe-Koga and Fred Storek served as scorers. Catherine Vonnegut also helped on Wednesday nights leading up to our competition in coaching students as they prepared their speeches. We appreciate the help of these volunteers!
On March 26th, our 1st Place Winner, Nora Soraci-Alonso, went on to compete at the Regional Rotary Speech Contest, held at Courtyard by Marriott in Los Altos. Nora won 1st Place there as well and will now go on to compete at the next level in Gilroy, the Regional Rotary Speech Contest, on April 9th. We congratulate Nora and wish her well. She is a great representative of her school and of our Rotary Club! Judy Hanneman, Tom Moran, Cathy Merrill, Joan Young, and Scott Johnson attended the Area contest on March 26th, cheering Nora on.
