Update on Red Badge Project
Submitted by Tracy Wingrove

Rotarians are always there to lend a hand.  When the Library Foundation needed help moving about 7,500 books to a new location, Brian Kuepper, Satish Ullal, Don Skinner, Suresh Ojha, CJ Grewal, and Karen Suty stepped up.  They arrived at the Library on Saturday bright and early and in good spirits.  They didn't let the fact that the service elevator broke phase them.  They loaded the book carts full of books, moved them to their new location and re-shelved them, keeping them in order.
They discovered books they thought about getting for themselves with titles such as "How to Own a Gun and Stay out of Jail", "My Posse Don't Do Homework" and "What Wood is That? A Guide to Identifying Types of Wood".  You know our Rotarians, always looking to improve themselves.  We wrapped up the morning with a behind-the-scenes tour of the library.
In all seriousness, a big thanks to everyone who came out and helped.
It was a big project, and they handled it with ease.  The books are all set for the Library Foundation to use Monday morning.

GUEST PRESENTATION:

Ken Rowell introduced our guest presenter, Michelle Lewis,  the district 5170 Interact Chair from 2014-2018 term.  Through this position, Michelle advises and mentors over 250 students for volunteer community opportunities.    The name Interact was created by combining the words “international” and
“action”.  Another factoid, District 5170 Interact is the world’s  largest and recognized interact district with over 103 clubs and 7,000 members in Silicon Valley, Metropolitan area, California, USA.  Interact 5170 is dedicated to serving both the local and international communities through service and fundraising.

The students, Phoebe, Vyvy, Lily, Marc,
Christina, Ishita and Arianna,
representing Santa Clara and Wilcox High School gave a presentation and showed a
video on their RYLA experience.    One student advised how it helped him to see the light in others and build bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime.  Confidence, leadership, and mentoring, positive qualities these kids need and strive for.  RYLA is a great venue,
so we learned.  The students expressed their love for Rotary and by gosh,  said we are indeed “The Greatest Club In the World”!!
The upcoming Fall Leadership Conference is coming up  at Independent High School,
October 11  where students attend for the day and participate in workshops.  We are invited to attend.  See Margaret or Michelle for more details.
