Christian Albrect, the Northern Cal Director of the California Alcohol Control Board brought us all up to date on the functions and roles of the state’s Alcohol Control Board at last week’s meeting. Topics ranged from how alcohol sales are handled at Levi’s Stadium given that one can order drinks from a smartphone app while sitting in their seat to what is happening relative to Cannabis legalization in the sate. The Hi Tech nature of Levi’s stadium posed some challenges to Control Board and Mr. Albrect guaranteed that Cannabis legalization in the State will be on the November, 2016 ballot. The Alcohol Control Board will be the agency responsible for establishing procedure and rules should the ballot measure pass. It was and interesting talk and depending on how legalization vote going we may want to have him back as a speaker in 2016-2017.

John Mlnarik announced that 47 tickets for the “Day at the A’s” have been ordered by Club members and guests.  That is a great turn out with the proceed going to support RYLA. Thanks to John and all who ordered tickets.

Andrew Lin and Janel Alembeyogan of the Silicon Valley Rotaract Club provided information on the Philippines Typhoon Relief Silent Auction & Fashion Show to be held on September 18, 2014. Proceeds from this event will benefit Revive Farms. This organization focuses on the rehabilitation of villages affected by Typhoon Haiyan through long-term sustainability programs for farmers and fishermen. The Club presented Andrew and Janel with a check for $500 in support of the effort. For more details about the event contact William Cambra at wcambraiv@gmail.com or call (408) 607 5109. They are also accepting donated items for the auction.

On a lighter note, we finally caught up with Gerry Kosko and had him give us a blow by blow account of his hole-in-one a couple of weeks ago.  Gerry generously donated to the club to help celebrate his special accomplishment.

Denise Donahue kicked off signups for the Club’s booth at the Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival. We need club members to work a shift at the two day event.
Andy Ratermann has arranged for another outstanding topic/speaker for this week’s  meeting. It will be Max Noel, a retired FBI agent. Max will be talking about the Unabomber case that the FBI solved several years ago.

See you all on Thursday.
