Rotary Club of Santa Clara

Message From President Steve Rainbolt

Weekly Club News Update!

4/22/2015

Last week’s meeting was Throw Back Thursday with past President Jan Eric Nordmo leading the meeting. Thanks Jan. I hear Bevis & Butthead were featured.

The speaker was John Ifcher, Assistant Professor of Economics at Santa Clara University. His topic was about Tax Credits and Happiness. Since I wasn’t at the meeting I don’t have any tidbits to pass along.

For the Club’s Red Badgers, a Blue Badge Progress board was displayed. The board shows the tasks needed to get a Blue Badge. Our membership chair Bob Ricks proposed it and Joe Sweeney made the board. I am not sure there was an explanation about the purpose of the board but that will be covered this week.

The District conference took place last weekend. I hope you all attended at least one session. Our own Andy Ratermann led the Friday evening pledge covering for the missing president who was probably being held captive in Area 51. Thanks Andy.

Jan Eric played a very important role at the conference for the Saturday evening dinner. He was responsible for keeping tabs on the entertainers as they dressed and prepared for their act. If you saw some photos posted on Facebook you can understand why Jan had a tough assignment.

This week’s speaker is none other than our own speaker chair, Andy Ratermann. Andy has been instrumental in establishing a sister club in Ireland and has made a few trips to the land of the Irish. So, not surprising, he will be talking about Ireland and the possibilities of doing more with our sister club in Limerick.

See you on Thursday.
