Weekly Club News Update!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last week we were treated to an excellent talk by Phil Gonsalves, Associate Superintendent of the Santa Clara Unified School District. Phil started off by handing out some math problems to members and guests asking them how they would arrive at the answers. He then went on to describe several ways to solve the problems and how the different methods worked for different students. It doesn’t have to be the old borrow, cancel, and carry method that a lot of us may have learned but never really understood. Phil is on loan to the SCUSD to help bring Common Core State Standard in Mathematics to the district in an effort to improve math proficiency and real understanding of the subject.

Larry Marsalli was presented a check of $2026 in support of his family’s annual Thanksgiving dinner for those that may not have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. This was the largest donation the club has raised for this event. The best part, all of the donations were voluntary since we passed the hat. Once again the generosity the club continually demonstrates is outstanding. Thank you all for helping those less fortunate.

Lizzy Baron is well on her way to earning her Blue Badge following her Red Badge talk. Great talk complete with photos and many insights about who she is and why she joined Rotary.

Please note we are dark this week for Thanksgiving. You all have your special traditions for this holiday so enjoy and give thanks. I would also ask that you turn your thoughts and prayers to Mike Moul. Mike is still battling an infection and had to return to the Hospital this past Monday.

Invitations are about to be sent out for our annual Holiday Dinner. I hope you are all able to attend.

Have a great Thanksgiving and we will see you all at the Dec. 4

th meeting.
