VETERANS HONORED BY SONG

Dee Hoffman was this week’s song leader and, as what has become a tradition around Veterans Day, led the club in singing the official songs for all four branches of the military – Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. After the four were sung, all joined in for “God Bless America.”  As each song was rendered, veterans of each branch were asked to stand, followed by those who have had family members serve. Honored veterans were gathered for a picture after the meeting. Many thanks to those who have served.

ANOTHER NEW MEMBER INTRODUCED

Ashley Stoneburner introduced new Rotarian Kaitlyn Rulton, who is joining under the Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s corporate membership. Rulton is that fine organization’s membership and development coordinator. A native of Naples, Florida, Kaitlin earned a bachelor’s degree in hospitality administration/management from Florida Gulf Coast University. Kaitlyn has strong interests in both travel and volunteering. Welcome to Rotary, Kaitlyn!

HEARTLAND SINGS AT ROTARY

Noel Knox introduced this week’s program, Heartland Sings. Robert Nance, founder, president and artistic director, presented the background and mission of the organization he started in 1997. One of the main purposes is that, in supporting the arts, a city the size of Fort Wayne should have a number of full-time, professional vocalists residing here. Heartland fulfills that mission  and much more by serving as a professional and educational resource for the vocal arts throughout the area.

Robert explained the organization’s evolving business model of building upon both donors and ticket sales to fund this very important enrichment to the community. In addition to the compelling presentation, the club was treated to two great vocal numbers, including Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” performed by six professional Heartland Sings performers.

A further event is the upcoming Dec. 10 the Mad Ants home game where Heartland Sings will lead an effort to set a new world record for most live performers of a song, in this case “Back Home Again in Indiana.” It’d be great to have some Rotarians in the mix!

FOUNDATION HONORED

The Association of Fundraising Professionals recognized The Rotary Foundation with its annual Award for Outstanding Foundation.

The award honors organizations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others and involvement in public affairs. Some of the boldest names in American giving, Kellogg, Komen and MacArthur, among others, are past honorees.

STUDY CONNECTION TUTORS NEEDED!
HELP SPREAD THE WORD!

There is a great need for additional tutors at Washington Elementary.

The school currently has  four students who would benefit greatly from the program but we don’t have any tutors to assign to them.

It’s only an hour a week and you can double-up with another tutor to share that responsibility so you only tutor every other week.

If you can’t tutor, maybe you know of a friend, co-worker or neighbor who would be willing to give one hour a week – or every other week – to tutor a student.

THANK YOU all for being a positive role model and helping these students In achieving academic success.
