A three-day celebration for Memorial Day and to officially open the new pool is set for this weekend in Kentland.
“We will kick-off the events on Saturday with a DJ and a barbeque then we will be continuing into Sunday and Monday at Cast Park,” said Mike Rowe of the Kentland park board. “A military unit will come from Lafayette with a helicopter and some military vehicles. We are planning a car show for Sunday and a little bit of live music.”

Rowe gave an update of the events to the Kentland Rotary Club May 18.
The grand opening for the pool is Saturday. Pool tickets will cost $3 per day per visitor and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
The celebration continues Sunday with the car show at Cast Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A church service will also be held starting at 10 a.m.
On Memorial Day Monday the Kentland American Legion will be doing flag raisings at several locations: Goodland Cemetery 9:30 a.m., Fairlawn Cemetery 10 a.m., Doran Cemetery 10:30 a.m., Buswell Mt. Zion 10:45 a.m., Pleasant Grove 11:15, Newton County Courthouse 11:45 a.m. and Cast Park noon.
There will also be free music from local talent Monday and activities for kids both days.
