Collette Michaud

Founder, CEO and Creative Director

Children's Museum of Sonoma County

Collette worked in software design as a project leader, game designer, art manager and animator. For more than ten years, she was a key innovator and manager for LucasArts Entertainment Company and helped launch Lucas Learning, a children’s entertainment software company. During her tenure at Lucas Learning, Collette worked with teachers, scientists, and young children to create award winning educational software products.

In 2001, Collette left the software industry to raise her two sons. Having children opened her eyes to the need for hands-on experiential learning -- outside of the computer. In 2005, with no funding, she founded the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County when her sons were just four and six years old. For the past eleven years, she has dedicated her time and energy to the creation of a space where children and their caregivers learn in the best way possible – through the power of play.

She has lived in Petaluma for the past 18 years with her husband Steve, two teenage sons Russell and Ian, their dog Lucy, and two chickens, Oreo and Olive.
