READ ACROSS AMERICA

On Monday, March 7th, Rotarians Rick Rounsaville and Rodney Seifert represented the Rockaway Rotary Club in promoting literacy by participating in the annual “Read Across America” day in Rockaway Borough. Rick and Rod read stories to 2nd graders at Lincoln School as part of the event sponsored annually by the National Education Association.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, the Rockaway Rotary Club honored Erika Scholtz, a student from Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Rockaway Borough as part of our “Student of the Month” program. Youth Services Chairperson Jake Vogelezang explained Rotary’s focus in the area of education and introduced Thomas Jefferson Principal, Stephanie Bonaparte, who outlined Erika's outstanding qualifications for this award.

"Rotary provides $35 million in new funding"

2016 DISTRICT-WIDE 50/50 RAFFLE

Tickets for the 2016 District-Wide 50/50 raffle have been distributed to our club and are available from Past President Janice. The tickets are $20 each and the drawing will be held on May 11, 2016 at the District Year-End Assembly.

Under the terms of this fund-raiser, 50% of the proceeds will go to the winners, and the remaining 50%, less expenses (approximately 8%) will go to the Rotary Clubs or other organizations that sell the tickets.

Last year our club sold the winning ticket and we will participate in this raffle again this year. Please contact PP Janice to obtain tickets to sell and/or purchase to assist us in this club fundraising project.

ALL SOLD AND UNSOLD TICKETS MUST BE RETURNED TO PP JANICE BY MAY 1, 2016.

Rotarians in District 7470 have the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills as well as increase their Rotary knowledge by attending Rotary Leadership Institute on Saturday April 9, 2016 at West Orange High School in West Orange.

We know from past experience that Clubs that have Rotarians who participate in Rotary Leadership Institute are more successful. Develop your leadership skills, your Rotary knowledge and learn what’s necessary to take your club to the next level.

The institute is from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Register today at www.rlinea.com. The cost is inexpensive at $75.00 and includes breakfast, lunch, all materials, and workshops.

Be sure to register early. Parts I, II, III, Graduate and Faculty courses will be offered. If you have questions or need additional information, contact Barry Kroll at barrykroll@aol.com
