Meetings & Events
March 04, 2024 - Rich Ward, the former president of AVNET Computer Group, gave us a brief history of AVNET, what it's major products and services are, as well as an explanation of how his group moved from LA to Phoenix. It is an amazing company with extremely high ethics.  Rich is a true renaissance man who flew jets for the Navy, owns his own sheep farm that is totally off the grid, loves sailing and camping.  We didn't have enough time to have a longer discussion with Rich but I'm sure we will have him return later in the year.
February 19, 2024 - Member Rich led us through a discussion to develop an understanding of who we are and where are we going as a club? The results of the discussion (on a white board) will help us develop a strong brochure that can be used for recruiting new members, as well as for soliciting donations to our foundation.
February 5, 2024 - President Dave, presented Rich Hamilton with a Rotary Benefactor award for his recent contribution to the Rotary Foundation Benefactor Program.
January 22, 2024 - Two representatives from Teen Lifeline, Luis Barcelo, and Nikki Kuntz, gave us an excellent presentation About Teen Lifeline. The organization began in 1985 to try and address the teen suicide problem in Arizona which had the second highest suicide rate in the country. Teen Lifeline trains teenagers to answer calls from troubled teenagers - last year there were 44,000 calls.  Using peers to help has been a very successful approach. Callers are helped in any number of crises, not just suicide. Teen volunteers receive 80 to 100 hours of training and answer calls from 3 to 9 pm, 365 days of the year. Teen volunteers work 15 hours per month and stay with the organization for over 3 years on average. They receive no state funding and thus depend on organizations and individual donors for support.  Their budget is $1.6M Our club gave them $1000.
Their presentation was very well received an generated a multitude of questions.
January 19, 2024 - Three club members, Dave, Doug, Andy, along with 3 friends assembled several chairs at Treasures for Teachers on Friday. As usual, the organization was very grateful for the support from the Kyrene Rotary Club.
