NO MEETING THIS WEEK - NEXT MEETING: 4/7 AT THE BLUFFTON ROTARY BUILDING
No meeting this week. Our next club meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 at 7:30am. This meeting will be IN-PERSON at the Bluffton Rotary Building.
We will also have an online component for those members of the club who can't join us in person. We will send more information about a virtual meeting space soon, but we are leaning toward using FaceBook Live for our virtual attendees. Our guest speaker at the meeting will be the Chief of the Bluffton Police Department, Stephanie Price.
RECAP: HAPPY FEET WAS A SMOOTH SUCCESS
HAPPY FEET WAS A SMOOTH SUCCESS AT MC RILEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LAST SATURDAY.
The Bluffton Rotary Club Service Projects Committee worked hard to bring a plan together and coordinated with area school counselors so that our club could safely host Happy Feet. It benefitted kids from MC Riley, Red Cedar and Bluffton Elementary Schools. The shoes were distributed via a car pool line so the families could stay in their cars. School volunteers acted as "runners" taking shoes from the display tables to the cars.

We are so grateful to Kohls of Savannah for providing all the shoes. And we are especially thankful for all the hard work by Kohls Assistant Manager, Tracey Meredith, who went out of her way to give us shoes that matched the colors requested by the kids. Kohls also donated socks, hand sanitzer AND books some of which we gave away to local children and some we will use for the Rotary Club's Little Libraries.
We also want to send a warm thank you to Laura Van Houten a social worker with MC Riley Elementary School, Renee Lukasavage a social worker with Red Cedar Elementary School, Annie Burkhart administrator at MC Riley Elementary and Adrian Sutton the principal at MC Riley Elementary. And finally, we had two wonderful volunteers who acted as the runners between cars and the display tables--Olivia Boshaw and Makenzie Marlow both students at Bluffton High School.
RECAP: 3/24 MEETING
At our last meeting, Eric Skipper, Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor of USCB spoke about the university experience during Covid. Skipper shared some very interesting information with the club about the plan and future of higher education in light of Covid and what university and college administrators have learned about online/remote learning during the last year. The future of  higher education will definitely have an online component for remote learning and virtual classrooms. He shared a few facts and figures that were eye opening--he specifically mentioned ecommerce sales which have had a general growth of 10% over the last ten years, but during the first eight weeks of the pandemic ecommerce sales saw an 11% increase. We have a new normal for shopping online and product delievery by shipping rather than brick and mortar store fronts. He also spoke about the huge increases and decreases in wealth during the pandemic, and the great gap in wealth between white and black populations. Unfortunately, the K-shaped recovery is driving a deeper wedge into an already disparate economy. The hope and goal with more of an online and virtual learning system is that a more diverse population will have access to higher education. It is still true that a college education is a ticket up and out of poverty. A big thank you to Eric Skipper for meeting with us early in the morning and sharing some important information gleaned about the economy and higher education during Covid.

LETTER FROM PRESIDENT RE: RESUMING IN-PERSON MEETING SCHEDULE
LETTER FROM OUR CLUB PRESIDENT SENT BY EMAIL ON MARCH 18.

Dear Club Member,

Beginning Wednesday, April 7th, 2021, at 7:30 am, we will resume in-person meetings.  The Board has had discussions about the best way to ease everyone back into the club over the last quarter.  For us to have our breakfast catered, we need to commit to 35 breakfasts, in order to make it viable for the caterer.
We are asking the caterer to provide a breakfast sandwich, fruit bowl and coffee all for only $10.00.  This would be added to your account for the last quarter of our Rotary year, for a total of $120.00, ($10.00 per week added to your regular dues). This is a one-time charge.  We will charge your account in the last quarter.
We are asking members to reserve your breakfast for the last quarter with Mary O’Neill by email.  She will have the breakfast count to pass on to the caterer if we should go over the 35 mark.  We will NOT be collecting money at the door for this.  It is important that you RSVP with Mary, to get your weekly breakfast ahead of time.  Please RSVP by March 31st, 2021.
Mary O’Neill, contact information:
Maryaoneill6@aol.com
For those of you that will not be joining us in-person, be advised that we will be changing our virtual format.  We are retiring the ZOOM meetings and beginning Face-time meetings, via Facebook.  We feel that you will get a better idea of what is happening at the meetings and you will be able to hear the meetings better as well.
I would like to thank all you for your patience and support during this challenging year.  I look forward to seeing all of you again soon!
BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED FOR FREE LITTLE LIBRARIES
We still need book donations for the two Little Free Libraries our club maintains.
Please consider donating any children's or adult books so we can keep both little libraries fully stocked.
