Update on Youth Reach
Feb. 02, 2017
Curt Williams, Founder and Executive Directorcurt@youth-reach.org
Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Curt was raised in a balanced and loving Christian home. He graduated from Central Baptist School in 1978 and for two years attended a local college, but with no real direction and little initiative he dropped out before earning a degree. In 1980, Curt found himself in trouble in his home town and moved to Houston to work in the burgeoning oil industry. Far from the Lord and far from home, Curt allowed his life to slip far from the standards that were taught by his parents. For several years his life was marred by a love of money, the nightlife of the big city and many poor choices. After encountering a group of Christians who demonstrated the love of Christ to him in a tangible way, he began to struggle with conviction and sought to find peace through his own means. This led to even more failures, but finally in May of 1984, he surrendered his life to the Lord. In late 1984, while sharing his new-found faith on the streets of Houston's infamous Montrose district, Curt found numerous kids who had no home, no hope and no future. For over five years, Youth-Reach operated The Refuge on lower Westheimer in Montrose where the staff fed 75-100 street kids seven nights a week. In November of 1984, Curt took the first kid into his rented condominium. That young man became the first of more than 2,200 kids who have called Youth-Reach their home. Soon it became apparent that a larger home was needed and for five years Youth-Reach operated out of a large donated house in the Northshore area. In 1991 the first property was purchased at the present location, and over time the surrounding properties were acquired and now Youth-Reach Houston has a campus of over 26 acres. In 1987, Curt met the woman who is now his wife and in 1988 they were married. Shelley and Curt have ministered on the streets, at summer camps and at countless retreats and conferences. They have seven children of their own (five boys, two girls) and live on-site at Youth-Reach Houston. Shelley has a BA in Psychology from The University of Houston and served for many years as the state-required Child Care Administrator of Youth-Reach. In 2014, Curt and Shelley's oldest son Judah joined the staff of Youth-Reach Houston. Today, Curt splits his time between Youth-Reach Houston and Youth-Reach Gulf Coast. He still carries the same passion for troubled kids that drove him back to the streets in 1984. Curt's latest project and goal is to educate parents by sharing practical and actionable concepts taken from both his extensive interactions with troubled teens and from his own personal parenting experience. He is the creator and lead presenter of RESOLUTIONS Parenting seminars sponsored by Youth-Reach. For more information about RESOLUTIONS Parenting or to book a seminar at your venue, contact our office at 281-459-4555. |

Presentation on Harris County Precint 3 Constable Activities
Mar. 23, 2017
Sherman Eagleton is a long time resident of Harris County. Sherman and his wife are raising their children in the Baytown area; two daughters, Kimberly & Shayla, and a son, Jared. He has been married to his lovely wife of many years, Dr. Rosalyn Gayle Eagleton. Sherman grew up in a family of twelve kids in the Barrett Station/Crosby area of Texas. His vast law enforcement experience of over twenty-two years has greatly instilled Sherman's belief in the importance of responsive and trustworthy law enforcement. I have witnessed first-hand the importance of serving diverse communities in our precinct of all ethnic backgrounds and people from across party lines, each with their own community and culture. I will use my law enforcement and business experience to improve the performance and accountability in the precinct 3 Constable's office and on the streets.

2017 is the 100th year of the Rotary Foundation doing good in the world. We want to recognize all the Major Donors, Bequest Society members, and Paul Harris Society members at this event. It is because of your generous donations that enabled the foundation to serve Humanity and making a difference. In order to celebrate this event, I invited Past RI President Rick King to come to our district as the keynote speaker on April 1st, 2017. Many of you heard his speech at PETS . He is a phenomenal speaker. He will surely inspire your members to serve humanity and make a difference in the world. As leaders in the district and in your club, we all know that inspired and excited members will do so much for your club. I hope you will get as many members to come to this event as possible. Seatings are limited to the first 150 registrants. Please see the attached flyer for more information. I hope to see you there. Eric Liu |
