North Shore Rotary 40th Annual Fundraiser - May 16, 2015"Let's Roll for Rotary" is the theme for this year’s 40th annual Catfish Fry & Crawfish Boil Fundraiser. The event, which has made our club legendary in the Rotary world, will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm, at the North Shore Rotary Pavilion located at 14350 Wallisville Road. Incoming club president, Michael Williams, promises “this will be an AWESOME event”. The North Shore Rotary Club is well known among Rotary clubs around the world as a leader when it comes to fundraising success. Over the past 14 years alone, the club membership along with hundreds of volunteers, sponsors and supporters has raised well over $4,400,000.00 , much of which has gone back into the community in the form of scholarships, community improvement projects, support for national & international projects, educational initiatives and many other worthwhile causes.
From the live auction, to the silent auction, to the raffle of a 2015 Toyota Tundra Pick Up Truck or a 2015 Toyota Avalon with Leather interior courtesy of Community Toyota in Baytown, TX and many other prizes, to the awesome catfish & crawfish with all the fixin’s, there really is something for everyone at this year’s fundraiser. We will even have some entertainment along the way. Whether you choose the live auction, the silent auction or both, you will find one-of-a-kind treasures to bid on while you experience the thrill of a live auctioneer and excitement of bidding for a variety of “one of a kind” items, memorabilia, antiques, art, hunting & fishing trips, tools, collectibles, electronics and many other unique items. The silent auction has items too numerous to list here but the live auction is where all the excitement is! Check this website later for updates and a list of live auction items. Other raffle prizes include a Las Vegas hotel stay with a $500 gift card, a half side of beef, weekend getaways, sports packages, electronics and many other prizes. Tickets are $100 each and there will be a limited amount of tickets sold. Odds for winning a prize are 1 in 40 so make sure to purchase your raffle ticket from any North Shore Rotary member. Tickets are now being sold for both the raffle and the Fish Fry & Crawfish Boil dinners. Raffle tickets are $100.00 each and each ticket includes two (2) meals. Meal tickets are $10.00 each for either a fried catfish dinner or a boiled crawfish dinner. This event wouldn’t be possible without the support and donations from our corporate sponsors. This year’s sponsors have stepped up to support the club and our community and we owe them our thanks and gratitude. The sponsors include: Diamond Sponsors Holiday Inn Houston East Gold Sponsors: Basic Equipment - Bestway Oilfield - Blue Northern Air Conditioning Silver Sponsors: Cana Cartage - See more at: http://portal.clubrunner.ca/3942#sthash.qCJA9RID.dpuf |

Update on the Guerrero Eye Clinic
Aug. 13, 2015
Walter Branson will provide an update on the Guerrero Eye Clinic
History Dr. Tom Pruett, an optometrist, traveled to Mexico in 1980 on a medical mission to provide free medical care to children. While there, he saw that it was not just children who needed care.
To address these needs Tom, a Rotarian, reached out to Rotary and his church. Walter Branson, another Rotarian, joined the cause in 1983. Now 35 years later, with the help of Rotary clubs, individuals, businesses, medical practices and organizations such as churches, Lion’s clubs, and government entities, The Guerrero clinic has grown and thrived to treat the indigent population of the state of Chihuahua and beyond. Rotary has been integral in building and sustaining this project. It has been a project of the Rotary clubs of Districts 5890 (Houston, TX) and 4110 (Mexico) for decades while expanding to District 5810 (Dallas, TX) in the last 10 years. Facilities The Guerrero Clinic is a fixed base facility with
Management The Guerrero clinic is owned and managed by the Guerrero Rotary foundation. |

Cody Stephens GBOGH Foundation
Aug. 27, 2015
Our own Scott Stephens will present information on the Cody Stephens Go Big or Go Home Foundation activities. On May 6, 2012, Cody Stephens was a few weeks from graduating from Crosby High School, and looking forward to showing his pig, steer and lamb at the Crosby Fair and Rodeo in June. He was also excited to be headed to Tarleton State University on a football scholarship, and working to stay in good physical condition to be prepared for college football practices. At 6’9″ and weighing 289 lbs, he seemed to be in perfect health, and had no idea that he had a fatal heart problem. On that Sunday afternoon, Cody came in, kicked back in his dad’s recliner, clicked the TV on, said he was tired and dozed off for a nap. He never woke up but died in his sleep, from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. This was something that we had never heard of and had no idea that young, seemingly healthy children were at risk of, with relatively few or no warning signs. The GBOGH website was created to share Cody’s story with others and do anything and everything we can, to raise awareness of this silent killer and help prevent other families from experiencing the loss and heartache that we know. |

HCSO/Boy Scouts-Explorer
Sep. 03, 2015
HCSO Deputy Sheriff Brian Goldstein will be our speaker for the September 3, 2015 club meeting. Goldstein is the advisor for posts 43 and 411 of the HCSO's Police Explorers program started by Sheriff Adrian Garcia in 2011. He will present an overview of this very successful program. The HCSO’s Police Explorers program is open to teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 (must have completed the 8th grade) and 20 interested in a career in law enforcement. Student participants will get a first-hand look at what it takes to be a law enforcement officer and decide early on whether it is a career they want to pursue. The Explorers students will have the opportunity to train to perform certain police functions and utilize that training in mock police calls. They’ll also be able to showcase that training in Explorers competitions, held throughout the United States, and qualify to win awards and even college scholarships. The Sheriff’s Explorers program, which is a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America and is affiliated with Learning for Life, will be led by two trained advisors in each district post and supported by HCSO civilian assistant advisors. “The Police Explorers program is a proven model and comes with a nationally respected brand of the Boy Scouts of America. The Police Explorers program is a great opportunity to educate and mentor our youth and expose them to the rewarding profession of community service and law enforcement. It’s also a great way for our youth and their parents to support law enforcement.” There are eight (8) Explorering posts within the HCSO, one assigned to each patrol district, including one (1) in the downtown Houston area. A complete list of those posts is listed under the ‘Contact Us’ Link. Harris County Sheriff's Explorers website link: http://hcsoexplorers.com |
