With our four Community Blood Drives each year, Kingwood Rotary Club is devoted to helping give the "Gift of Life" to others.  For years, we've held multiple blood drives for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, and are now doing the same for the M.D. Anderson Blood Center.

Kingwood Rotary Club is now taking the "Gift of Life" it to an much larger international level by helping the landlocked West African country of Mali - one of the poorest nations in the world, solve a problem that will help save lives.

We've just received official notification that our $39,000 Rotary Foundation Global Grant Project has been completed!

Rotary International provides financial support for sustainable projects around the world.  These projects require both a local host Rotary club and an international Rotary club partner before Rotary International will approve the project.

Through our partnership with the Rotary Club of Bamako Quest in Rotary District 9101 in the country of Mali, and the Rotary Club of Pasadena (TX) and Rotary District 5890 (Houston), Kingwood Rotary Club has built a cold room for a blood bank in Mali to provide storage for 1,000 pints of blood.  Currently, they do not have cold storage for their blood donations, so this will be a tremendous life-saving project.

Currently in Mali, 80% of maternal deaths could be averted if women had access to essential maternity and basic health-care services during delivery of their babies, so this cold storage room is essential in saving women who may have complications during and after giving birth and need blood.

Kingwood Rotary will be the official International Partner on the $39,000.00 Rotary Foundation Global Grant with the Rotary Club of Bamako Quest in Mali.  The other partners will be the Rotary Club of Pasadena (Texas), Rotary District 9101 (Mali) and Rotary District 5890 (Greater Houston Area).  Matching funds from The Rotary Foundation will be $18,250.

Making the difference in the lives of others, whether here in the USA or in other parts of the world, is something that all Rotary clubs focus on and we are very proud that this project will help Kingwood Rotary provide the "Gift of Life"!
