Boise Sunrise Rotary has awarded grants to 17 community organizations to support various programs that provide support to youth and low-income residents in the Treasure Valley. One grant was awarded to Semilla Nueva, an organization started by a young entrepreneur from Boise that provides agricultural training to farmers in Guatemala.  Individual grants ranged in size from $1,500 to the Family Advocate Program to support volunteer training to $400 to the Idaho State Bar to support citizen legal education.  The following organizations received grants:
 
  • Boise Rescue Mission, Support of Women's and Children's Programs, $1,000
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County, Support of summer reading program at Hawthorne Elementary, $500
  • Create Common Good, Support of job training and placement, purchase kitchen knives, $800
  • Family Advocate Program, Support of training and background checks of volunteers that work with families and children of clients, $1,500
  • Garden City Library Foundation, Support of summer reading program, $500
  • Girl Scouts of Silver Sage, Inc., Support of "Visions Program" for underprivileged girls, $1,000
  • Idaho State Bar, "Love the Law", $400
  • The Jesse Tree of Idaho, Support of rental assistance program, $1,000
  • Kessler-Keener Foundation, Mentor Artist Playwright Project for at-risk youth, $500
  • Learning Lab, Support of kitchen upgrade project, $1,000
  • Life's Kitchen, GED Tutoring and Testing Program, $500
  • One Stone, Inc., Support of Open Book Adventures tutoring and mentoring program, $1,000
  • Semilla Nueva, High Impact agricultural program in Guatemala, $500
  • Treasure Valley YMCA, Support of Youth in Government program, $500
  • Unconditional Life, Inc., Support of TIPPS Leadership Program to help Idaho college students complete their certificate or degree program, $1,000
  • United Way of Treasure Valley, Hygiene Kits for Homeless Students, $500
  • Usful Glassworks, Upgrade of fire polisher from BSU student design, $800
In addition to the grants, Boise Sunrise also has pledged $3,500 to earthquake relief efforts in Ecuador, $1,500 in additional funding for the Everyday Youth Leadership program, $350 for softball equipment for Hope House in Marsing, and $1,200 in scholarships to Project Amigo in Colima, Mexico.
 
Funding for the grant program comes from the annual Lobsterfest event. This year's event will be held on Friday, September 9th, at CenturyLink Arena in downtown Boise.
