Hello Rotarians,

The board has agreed to pursue a new initiative in 2018 - quarterly drives for community nonprofits! Since I recently acquired a garage, I've agreed to steer the initiative and organize the moving parts.

It’s simple - every three months we’ll shift to a new beneficiary, track down their needs and wheel the items over to our Tuesday meetings. At the end of the quarter, we’ll either have the beneficiary come pick them up or we (I?) can deliver them. There will be a focus on beneficiaries that need in-kind donations as well so we aren’t just mirroring Happy Bucks and burning people out.

To start our engines, I’ve chosen JEMFriends as our first beneficiary. Here’s what they’ve indicated would fuel their efforts best:
  • Household cleaning supplies (cleaners, detergents, sponges, paper towels, etc.)
  • Household basic needs (toilet paper, hand soap, tampons, etc. Think about what you buy regularly. Before James asks - no, they cannot be used)
  • Tickets to events or fun things (movies, tickets your bank gives as perks, that Olive Garden gift card your great aunt gave you because she has no taste buds, etc.)
  • Link your Fred Meyer rewards card number to their nonprofit key - 91501. This gives them great deals for housing items
  • Gift cards to anywhere
  • Organize a fellowship activity to:
    • Make them dinner during one of their workshop nights
    • Take them somewhere that generally tends to give huge ticket discounts, like an Idaho Steelheads game. Does anyone have a connection there?

If you have questions or want to take the wheel on suggesting the Q2 beneficiary, let me know. I guess now I’ll have to start making pit stops at our meetings to collect.

I’m excited for the road ahead!
