The objective of the Rotary Clubs of Kings County Charitable Foundation is to help, via a grant program, qualified organizations that support seniors, the relief of poverty, programs for the physically and mentally challenged, immigration services, literacy and employment training, preservation of the environment, advancement of education, international development and advancement of the arts.

The Rotary Clubs of Kings County Charitable Foundation began with a dream to build an endowment fund to provide a source of sustainable funding for future projects in our communities.

After establishing the Foundation in 2007, the Board of Directors of RCKCCF were pleased to make the first donation in 2009 to six area food banks.  Since then, annual contributions to our communities have steadily increased as the principal amount in the Foundation as grown. The Foundation has accumulated more than $2,000,000 invested.

How can you contribute?
  • Make a donation of securities.  Marketable securities with large unrealized capital gains now receive special tax treatment
  • Assignment of Life Insurance or Bequests  Please consider a codicil to your will leaving a bequest to the foundation and/or making the foundation a beneficiary under one of your policies of life insurance.
  • Memorial Tributes.  Consider a contribution to the foundation in memory of a friend or family member.

The disbursement process
  1. Applications (for projects of at least $10K) are submitted to Secretary of the RCKCCF between the dates of January 1 and September 15.
  2. Between Sept 15 and Sept 30, the applications are reviewed and a ranking is made based on the following criteria; Charitable status (essential), Community impact (25%), access to other funds (20%), sustainability (25%), project risk( 25%), and management history (5%)
  3. The proponents from the top five applications, will be asked to make 10- minute presentation at a joint meeting of the four Rotary clubs in Kings County. At a 'town hall' following the presentations and after the proponents have departed, Rotarians will be asked to provide feedback. Written and verbal comments by attendees are encouraged. The feedback from participating Rotarians is used to assist the Disbursement committee in preparing a recommendation for the Board of Directors. (completed by Nov 30th)
  4. The Board of Directors meets and makes the final decision (early December)
  5. The President of the Board notifies the applicants of the results (before the end of December)
