We met Thursday, March 26th to discuss the book “Behind the Beautiful Forever” by Katherine Boo.  Although everyone  agreed it was a depressing, but well-written and researched book and all were glad they read it.  Our moderator, Judy Wilson, pointed out that every story in the book was based on real events and characters.  The author spent months in the slums with these people and presented their stories in their harsh reality. The harsh realities of slum living was hard to imagine and in addition every person you meet – friend or legal system worker - asks for a bribe. You might want to check out these interviews to learn more about the author and the topic. NDTV interview  or Stephen Colbert Interview

The next meeting will be Monday, April 27th at 7 pm at the YMCA.  The book is “Churchill’s Secretary: A Maggie Hope Mystery” by Susan Llia MacNeal..  A nice mystery involving World War II, the IRA, Winston Churchill, MI 5, the London blitz, and, of course, a murder.  A fun book and an easy read.  It is a real page-turner.  Hope to see you there, remember its not required to read the book, we will fill you in.
