Doing The Most Good

Captain Patrick O'Gara (shown, left, with Worcester Rotarian Ken Harling), is administrator of the Salvation Army's Worcester Adult Rehabilitation Center on Cambridge Street. "Doing the most good." In these four words, are the Salvation Army's mission - to feed, to clothe, to comfort, to care.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. The Salvation Army states that "its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination."

The Salvation Army operates 7,546 centers in communities across the U.S., including Worcester. These include food distribution, disaster relief, rehabilitation centers, anti-human trafficking efforts, and a wealth of children's programs. The work is funded through kettle donations, corporate contributions, and the sale of goods donated to our Salvation Army Family Stores.

Eighty-two cents of every dollar spent supports various missions across the country. The Salvation Army is a tax-exempt, non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and contributions are deductible for federal income tax purposes to the extent permitted under Section 170(b)(2) for corporations.
