On behalf of the Sustainable Weston Action Group and the Sustainability Committee (SWAG)

"We are preparing for a warrant article at town meeting in December that may allow Weston to explore and enter into a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program.

In short, CCA is a process by which municipalities can aggregate and switch the electricity of the households and small businesses from basic service over to cleaner energy. An energy broker is employed to ensure the municipality can purchase the amount of energy needed, and residents may opt out at any time. The electricity is still distributed and billed through the original utility (i.e. Eversource).

Several other towns have successfully implemented CCA programs (including Newton, Lexington, Watertown, Sudbury and Acton), and residents and small businesses have been able to save money while receiving an increased percentage of renewably produced electricity.

We want to consider all possible stakeholders, and since small businesses would potentially be affected, we wanted to reach out to you. We will be hosting several information sessions in the coming weeks, leading up to town meeting, and would also love feedback from individual business owners and make sure their questions about a potential CCA program can be answered.

The 3 public information sessions hosted by SWAG are scheduled for

1) Sun Nov 3rd, 6:30-7:30pm @ First Parish Church
2) Wed Nov 13th, 12:30-1:30pm @ Council on Aging
3) Tues Nov 19th, 7-8pm @Weston Town Hall

Any interested resident or small business owner could choose the date that works best and join us! Light refreshments provided. Their hope is to inform voters about the CCA article that will be on the Special Town Meeting warrant in December!"
