Stop Hunger Now Meets with Great Success in Wellesley!!

Wellesley: April 19, 2014 – The Rotary Club of Wellesley’s Stop for Hunger Now (SHN) event was a huge success thanks to the Wellesley community.  Over 150 volunteers participated in this memorable community event where everyone contributed to the overarching goal of eradicating hunger around the world. Thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm and willingness to help, 20,000 meals were packed in less than three hours and are now on their way to Cambodia.  See Wellesley Rotary SHN Video

The group of volunteers represented a cross section of the Wellesley community from involved residents to members of various local organizations, colleges and businesses such as: the Wellesley High School, Saint John School, Babson College, Pinnacle Residential Properties, and Bulfinch Group. A special word of appreciation goes to the Wellesley Community Center for providing the venue for the event, to the Wellesley Police Department for attending to traffic management and safety, and the Wellesley Media Corporation for its media coverage.  A video showing of the event will air on the local access TV station in the next few weeks.  Be on the lookout for it and experience the joy of a community making a difference!

“It was an amazing experience.” –DH – volunteer

“I can't thank you enough for making SHN a great Rotary and community event. We wanted to recruit 100 volunteers from the Wellesley Community and more than 150 came. It was a great event for The Rotary Club of Wellesley. Thanks again. Good show!!” – Tom DeRiemer, President, Rotary Club of Wellesley.

This is the first time Rotary Club of Wellesley sponsors a Stop Hunger Now event and given its success the Club will consider making this effort one of its staple community events in the coming years.

About the Stop Hunger Now

Stop Everyone Had FunHunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that has been commitment to end hunger for more than 15 years. The organization coordinates the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families all over the world. Stop Hunger Now created its meal packaging program, in 2005. The food assembly process combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. Each meal costs only 25 cents and feeds six people. The food stores easily, has a shelf-life of two years, and transports quickly. Stop Hunger Now works with international partners that ship and distribute the meals in a country where the need has been identified. Stop Hunger Now partners with organizations such as Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Wellesley which gather community support and fundraising for the food packaging events.
