It's Million Dollar Meal time, so bring your lunch to this meeting!

What's a Million Dollar Meal?  The idea is that if Rotarians around the globe brought their own lunch to their meeting, but still paid for the meeting fee, we'd raise 1 million dollars in one day (there are 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide).  Many Rotary Clubs (like ours) embrace this tradition a few times a year.  Since we get kicked out of Braeburn for a couple of weeks each winter, this is our Million Dollar Meal season.

Dave Sellers is kindly hosting us at the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club, so bring your brown bag lunch, a drink, and napkin (and you can wear jeans!) and join us for a Student of the Month AND a speaker.

This week's speaker is Lynn Thomas of Thomas Consulting, who will speak about why social emotional learning is so important for businesses. She writes:

Is your employee turnover higher than you want?  Is it especially high for Millennials?  51% of the reasons why employees leave any company is because of the relationship they have with their boss.

Where do any of us learn our social and emotional skills?  They are not taught in the educational system.  The fact that over 50% of employees leave because of the relationship with their boss, indicates that few of us are very good at utilizing our social and emotional skills to inspire and create engaging work environments. Increasing your Managers’ SEL will increase employee retention and engagement across the board.

A recent study indicates that 85% of Managers do not have the management skills they need prior to becoming a Manager.  People are usually hired for their technical skills, but usually fall short of expectations because of their people skills. (SEL) Thus, their success is limited.

Managers and employees with high emotional intelligence consistently:

Easily Adapt to Change                                             Have Lower Stress and Anxiety

Are More Innovation                                                 Develop More Tact and Diplomacy

Easily Work with Teams and Collaborate                 Have Higher Confidence

Defuse Conflicts Faster and Easier                            Motivate and Engage Employees

If you want your managers and employees to have the social, emotional, and interpersonal skills they need to succeed, we can help.
