Zanmi Beni (ZB), a children and youth home located in the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, is a project of ZL in partnership with Partners in Health (PIH) and Operation Blessing International, created as a result of the January 12, 2010 earthquake. Thirty-eight (38) children were living in the abandoned babies’ unit at theHaitian General Hospital, which was severely damaged. With support from the General Hospital and the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR), ZL agreed to care for the children, all of whom had been abandoned and most, severely disabled. ZB translates into “blessed friend” in Creole, which reflects the commitment to “doing whatever it takes” to provide children a loving environment where they will flourish and grow to have safe and happy lives. ZB is nowhome to 64 children and young adults, half of whom are disabled, and employs 150 caregivers, teachers, and rehabilitation therapists. ZB provides a safe, stable, nurturing environment where these children can thrive, grow and learn.

Our speaker will share how the Rotary Club of Newton can get invovled with a grant program for ZB with the Rotary Club of Northborough.
