Updates from Dr. Sharon Gaber

Dr. Sharon Gaber, President of the University of Toledo, was our guest speaker on Friday.  Dr. Gaber was gracious enough to give us a brief update on the university and all of their many successes. While they are working on their "master plan", Dr. Gaber outlined five goals that they are currently focusing on: Raise national standing, increase enrollment & retention, increase externally funded research, improve fundraising, and keep UT education affordable.  Additionally, they are currently celebrating the success of increased enrollment and securing 3 competitive NIH grants to study cancer.  To learn more about the University of Toledo and their most recent campus master plan, click here.

News Flash:  Our Community Service Avenue of Service is rolling out a new project: Home Delivered meals to Homebound Seniors!  All you need is a car, an hour, and a smile!

You’ve heard Les Domini, Chair of our Community Service Avenue of Service, and President Bruce talk about this volunteer opportunity.  Perrysburg Rotarians are partnering with the Wood County Committee on Aging to deliver home-cooked meals to seniors in Perrysburg who are homebound. (If you are thinking “meals on wheels,” you are correct, except this program is through the Wood County Committee on Aging.)  No cooking required!

All you need to do is stop by the Perrysburg Senior Center at 11:15am on the second and fourth Thursday of the month and pick up the prepared meals, drive to your 10-14 designated homes, knock on the door, and hand the meal (with a smile) to the homebound senior!

Advance arrangements and completion of the attached Volunteer Profile are necessary.

To learn more or to ask questions about this project, please contact Susan Nelson or Les Domini.
