Mission to Kosovo
Our Nov 14 speaker will be RCNY's own Fredlee Kaplan, Vice President of Gift of Life International. She'll be talking about Kosovo and her mission there. It's stimulated by Gift of Life International's new surgery program of Gift of Life International serving children in Kosovo.

 

About Fredlee Kaplan and Her Connection to GOLI

Making a difference in the lives of children with cardiac disease and their families in Kosova: A new surgery program of Gift of Life International serving children in Kosovo. The story of the first-ever pediatric heart surgery mission in Pristina, Kosovo, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Government Hospital in Pristina". Fredlee Ann Kaplan, LCSW, attended the mission in Kosova and brings to us the story of its development and future possibilities.

Fredlee Is Vice President of Gift of Life International, the global non-profit funded in part by Rotary International. GOLI provides surgery and care for children who suffer from congenital heart disease who live in developing nations that cannot take care of them. GOLI and its 84 independent affiliated chapters support the development of sustainable pediatric surgery centers in Central America, Africa. Eastern Europe, and the Caribbean.

She holds professional licenses in Clinical Social Work (New York and New Jersey), Marital and Family Psychotherapy, (New York and New Jersey), and School Psychology (New York). She has a private practice in Family Therapy in New York City. Fredlee has been a member of the Rotary Club of New York since 2007 and is honored to have served on its Board of Directors, and as a Director of Gift of Life International from 2011 through 2018 when she became Vice President. She previously served on the GOL Metro New York Board and the Chairman’s Council of Gift of Life International. Since 2010, with healthcare professionals at Children’s Hospital Bloom in El Salvador, she has helped to develop a Humanized Care Program – patient and family-centered care for children and their families and teaching crisis intervention procedures and best practices in empathic care for the physicians, nurses and other medical staff. This program has become sustained by the staff there as a model for other countries. She has implemented the first-ever Humanized Care curriculum for the Professors of Adult and Pediatric Nursing at the University of El Salvador. In addition, she has been invited to join the Clinical Advisory Council for Sanctuary for Families, a New York non-profit organization serving families and children surviving domestic abuse.
