About Michael Shewchuk

As both a Legal Officer at the United Nations and Co-Founder of the Global Center for Human Change, Michael Shewchuk has a unique perspective on the significant challenges of our time.

It was at the United Nations that he first met Author and Philosopher, Richard Bowell, and was introduced to the pioneering work of Human Evolutary Change.

In a new publication, “An Urgent Plea from the Future”, Michael and the Global Center Research Team are presenting a series of "inner human alignments", created by Richard Bowell to show the way we can activate a human response to our global challenges.

For the first time, the challenges we face – as articulated by the United Nations in the Sustainable Development Goals – are together alongside the human response we need to rescue the future and transform our world.

Michael has over 25 years of experience as an international lawyer and diplomat, with expertise in a wide range of legal and policy issues, including climate change and plastic pollution. He has lectured extensively around the world and has taught international law at the university level in both the USA and Europe.

His central message is that at the heart of all the challenges we face is one single challenge that faces us all – until we transform ourselves we cannot hope to transform our world!

Michael Shewchuk on the UN Academic Impact Initiative

We have been launching this work, a series of "inner human alignments", at colleges and universities as part of their activities in support of the United Nations Academic Impact Initiative and the Sustainable Development Goals – to connect students to the work of the UN and help them see the significant role they can play in creating a new future.

While the SDGs lay out the challenges we collectively face and the global agenda to ‘transform our world’, the 17 Sustainable Development Goal Alignments show the way we can activate a human response to these global challenges.

This framework is the result of over six years of research and exploration at the HEC Global Center in New York, with input and support from scientists, academics and evolutionary leaders on what are the next steps in our human story.

It is based on a new publication by Author and Philosopher, Richard Bowell – “An Urgent Plea From The Future”, which has just been made available at the United Nations Bookshop.
