This District (along with Rotary District 6890 in Florida) has had serious discussions with the leadership of Rotary District 4250 that encompasses Honduras, Belize and Guatemala.  The purpose of these conversations is to develop and forge a structure to pursue joint grant-funded projects and exchanges in these three countries in Central America.

From August 28-September 2, 2016, Carlos Rene Flores Paguada, the District Governor for Rotary District 4250 and other members of two Rotary Clubs in Honduras will be in Tyler meeting with representatives from Mercy Ships; Refuge International; the Education, Nursing, and Pharmacy Schools at the University of Texas at Tyler; and from the Nursing and Medical/Dental departments at Tyler Junior College. On Monday, August 29, they will have lunch at South Tyler Rotary and will have an opportunity to meet with members of other Rotary Clubs in Tyler. This luncheon is open to the public for $10/person (please RSVP by Friday, August 26, to Kimberly.ashley@uthct.edu).

Dan Carpenter, the international coordinator for South Tyler Rotary, reported, “We are thrilled to have an opportunity to progress to the next step in this possible partnership.” According to Lee Montgomery, “The ultimate goal of these discussions is to develop medical, nursing, educational and other vocational exchanges as well as other projects regarding fresh water wells, libraries, hospitals, and economic development in Honduras, Belize, and Guatemala.”
