Join with Rotary members from Springfield, other communities in Central Illinois and around the country by donating to a program that allows your donation to be matched on a dollar for dollar basis.

Rotary Clubs around the world are joining together to help the people of Nepal following the disastrous earthquake that occurred on April 25.  The Rotary Club of Springfield has a very special reason for participating in these efforts.  Tilak Thapa Magar, a Rotarian from Katmandu, was visiting Springfield.  He was hosted by two Springfield Rotarians during his stay.  On Monday, April 27, Tilap attended our club meeting.  He spoke to our members and appealed for our help.

The Rotary Club of Springfield has decided to support a broad effort that is being led by Rotary leaders here in Illinois.  Tilak spent time with these leaders before returning to Katmandu.  Working with Rotary International and the Rotary District Leaders from Nepal, this project will use a Rotary process known as a Global Grant.  Donations will be made in Illinois and elsewhere to fund this grant.  The Rotary Foundation, the arm of Rotary International that actually funds programs around the world, will match these donations on a dollar for dollar basis.  The distribution of the funds will be controlled by Rotary and the Rotarians in Nepal will have a say as to the projects that are funded.  The entire process will be monitored and overseen by Rotarians experienced in raising and distributing funds in an efficient and effective manner.

The Rotary Club of Springfield has a 501{c}3 foundation, The Rotary Foundation of Springfield, which will serve as the conduit for all local contributions.  This foundation is a recognized not for profit entity and all contributions made to it are tax deductible.  The Rotary Club of Springfield will accumulate all local contributions and, along with other Rotary clubs and district, combine them for funding of the Global Grant.  The Rotary International Foundation will then match the total amount dollar for dollar.
