In September, Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) selected a new recipient for our Club's 2021-2022 John Giavaris Scholarship. The student previously selected made a last-minute decision to go to Eastern Illinois University. They are happy to announce that the new recipient selected for this scholarship is Kendra Morenz (image to left)

Kendra is a 2013 graduate of Virden High School and is starting college at LLCC to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse anesthetist. She is a single mother of 2 daughters that she loves spending all her free time with and leading them by example to instill the importance of an education. She wrote in her scholarship essay about her hands-on relationship with her children and volunteering in their school classrooms to “strengthen their parent/child relationship” and how she enjoys seeing them grow outside of their normal day-to-day routine at home.

She is currently enrolled in the LLCC Associate Degree for Nursing Program. Our club's scholarship and her LLCC experiences are helping her to achieve her RN degree. Her class schedule conflicted with her work schedule, and this scholarship gave her the assistance and momentum necessary to keep her in classes. She plans to graduate from LLCC's nursing program in September 2023 and to enroll in a Nurse Anesthetist program to further her nursing career while working as an RN.
