Publishing Editorials and Opinion Columns in Today's News Environment

Please join us for a lively presentation by Kate Schott, the editor of the State Journal-Register Editorial Page, on January 7 in Maldaners Upstairs at 5:30 p.m. A native of Oak Park, Kate is a 2002 graduate of the Public Affairs Reporting master’s degree program at the University of Illinois at Springfield.

She has held reporting and editing positions at newspapers in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. She has experience as a news editor and investigative reporting and projects editor. As a reporter, Schott covered K-12 and higher education, courts, state and local government, and politics.

Immediately prior to returning to Springfield in October 2016, she had served for about three years as editor of The Herald-News in Joliet and its sister publication the Morris Herald-News in Grundy County. She has been a board member of the Illinois Associated Press Media Editors since 2014. She enjoys cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks, looking for deals at flea markets and being the best aunt possible to her nephews and nieces.

Visitors are welcome to join us and may enjoy a fine buffet dinner for only $12.00.
