On June 25 at 5:30 p.m., Chuck Hill, the newly appointed curator of the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Museum in Springfield, will describe the museum, its collections, and exciting new plans to secure grants, work more closely with the history and education community, and offer internships and volunteer opportunities. Don't miss your chance to learn firsthand how this museum fulfills its mission to preserve the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and the founders of the Woman's Relief Corps (WRC).  The GAR organization was formed by Union veterans after the Civil War, and the WRC was formed in 1883 as an auxiliary to the GAR. The WRC still exists today and owns and operates the museum.  Chuck brings 25 years of professional experiences to this job as an archivist, researcher, educator, and curator. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Illinois Springfield and has served as the Archivist at Eastern Kentucky University, Curator of Photographs for the San Diego Historical Society, head of the Missouri Historical Archives, and project archivist for a number of federal grants. He has taught history and multi-cultural studies in a variety of settings.  Please join us in Maldaners Upstairs for this exciting program. Visitors are welcome and may enjoy a fine buffet dinner for $12.00.
