Population Science, Public Policy, and Health

Heather Westrick, MBA, will present a special program on population science, public policy, and health.  Heather is the Administrative Director of the Office of Popular Science and Policy at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine.  If you have never heard of the Office of Popular Science and Policy, this is your chance to learn what they do and how research at our local medical school is helping this area.  This Office is a research and policy unit dedicated to improving health outcomes of residents of central and southern Illinois. The Office seeks to understand the region that the SIU School of Medicine serves and find optimal approaches to the prevention and treatment of disease. Population science seeks to understand why certain individuals are healthier than others.  Current research by the Office of children's development, asthma, and cancer disparities is providing information and improving health for the people of central and southern Illinois. Heather Westrick will discuss this research and how public policy can impact health outcomes.
