Doug was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.

After completing high school in 1967, Doug left Canada to visit New Zealand. While there he undertook a four year apprenticeship in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. After completing the apprenticeship in 1971 Doug moved to Adelaide and worked for several air conditioning companies before accepting an offer in 1977 to represent Daikin, a new brand of air conditioning in Australia.

Based in South Australia Doug held a variety of positions with Dakin Australia Pty. Ltd. and during his 37 years there, including State Manager and National Business Development Manager, both of which entailed frequent interstate and overseas travel. He worked in Daikin’s Melbourne and Queensland offices, though always returned to home base in Adelaide.

With a great interest in Historic and Vintage cars, and Motorsports including V8 and Grand Prix events, Doug is a member of the MG Car Club of SA and the Early Ford V8 Club of SA.

Doug Joined the Rotary Club of Prospect in 1991 and was President in 1995/96 and again in 2012/13. Other offices held since joining Rotary were Director of Club Administration, Vocational and Fundraising Committees.

He was GSE/VTT Team Leader to Kansas, USA in 2011 and was Chair of the VTT Scholarships Committee in 2013/2014.  He is currently a member of several District Committees.

Doug played competition squash for many years, but has replaced that with less strenuous activities including a daily walk and a visit to the gym twice weekly.  Doug finds that other interests including reading, gardening and enjoying his cars which includes a “new” 1950 Ford Mercury Pickup, an MGB (yes, it’s red), and a 1983 Toyota Corolla in which he enters the RC of Regency Park’s Annual “Corolla Capers”.   Great fun!!!

Doug met his wife Lynne in 1985.  They have lived in Prospect since then, and have renovated and extended their 1924 bungalow. Together they enjoy travel, relaxing with great friends and their Rotary activities.
