Our guest speaker was the committed and passionate Steve Davis from The Adelaide Show. This was the first Rotary meeting that Steve had ever attended so David Rowe, Di Lane and John Campbell told their 'rotary story' to Steve as well as a quick overview of some of our community wrk. Steve started his career in radio at 5mu in Murray Bridge and worked at a number of stations over the years. Steve left radio in 2001 and now works at Baker Marketing. In 2013 Steve started a weekly podcast to promote Adelaide. He has a good conversation on the podcast with an interesting South Australian every week. The aim is to dispel the myths that Adelaide is boring. Have not missed a week since 2013. There are around 3000 listeners on social media. New programs published every Wednesday evening. One of Steve's mottos : "Believe that you are the centre of something special."
Steve engaged well with our group and is keen to interview some of our Rotarians for his future podcasts. The weekly ongoing commitment that Steve shows to producing this podcast is extraordinary. We can learn much from him and look forward to welcoming Steve back to another Rotary meeting.
Thanks to everyone that helped with the Big Hangout bbq on the weekend, greatly appreciated.
On the 14th November, 2015, our club was one of a number of Rotary Clubs providing support for the "Big Hangout" at Elder Park, a celebration of 70 years of the famous Hills Hoist. Pictured are some of our crew preparing to serve at the BBQ.
The RCAL’s attendance at the Hills Industries sponsored “The Big Hangout” was a “big fizzer” from a fund raising perspective. 8 hours work by 10 RCAL Rotarians on the day in conjunction with 5 other Rotary Clubs would have grossed maybe $1,000 in total for the day leaving very little likelihood of a distribution to the participating clubs. It may have been a greater success if there was wider advertising of the event.
The positives for the day included seeing Kym Pedler & Rotaractor Kirsti lending a hand, the Rodoni family Bull Boars (Swiss Italian sausages) getting a taste test amongst the RCAL Rotarians, RCAL receiving about $300 in unused stock for future BBQs, and of course the great fellowship that occurs at these activities.
Our thanks go out to Les Dennis of the RC of Regency Park for coordinating the project & we note that Rotary again proved its ability to pull together a team capable of catering for large numbers.
Thank you to the participating Rotarians & Rotaractor maybe we will have greater financial success at our next fund raising venture.
Please be aware that accommodation is filling fast.

5 Calperum News
In this latest issue “Calperum News”, Chairman Bob Arnold gives a short overview of the start-up of this great Environmental Project.
On the 21st March 2012 I invited a small group of Rotarians who had either been previously involved with Calperum or who had demonstrated their interest in taking a practical approach to environmental matters at Club level, to form a Calperum Committee to plan and oversee Rotary activities at the Station.
Bob also has announced An Exciting New Educational Development at Calperum, following a meeting of the Calperum Committee, held at Calperum Station from August 14-16; they announced exciting plans to develop and expand our Camp Calperum program, and a complete transformation of “The Health of The River” Project.

Notes left in milk bottles For those of us who remember Milk deliveries in Bottles,
here is a good example of a collection of notes left in milk bottles...
Dear milkman:
I've just had a baby, please leave another one..
Please leave an extra pint of paralysed milk.
Cancel one pint after the day after today.
Please don't leave any more milk. All they do is drink it.
Please cancel milk. I have nothing coming into the house but two sons
on the dole.
Sorry not to have paid your bill before, but my wife had a baby and
I've been carrying it around in my pocket for weeks.
Sorry about yesterday's note.. I didn't mean one egg and a dozen pints,
but the other way round.
When you leave my milk please knock on my bedroom window and wake me
because I want you to give me a hand to turn the mattress.
Please knock. My TV's broken down and I missed last night's Coronation
Street. If you saw it, will you tell me what happened over a cup of
tea?
My daughter says she wants a milkshake. Do you do it before you
deliver or do I have to shake the bottle?
Please send me a form for cheap milk, for I have a baby two months old
and did not know about it until a neighbour told me.
Milk is needed for the baby. Father is unable to supply it.
From now on please leave two pints every other day and one pint on the
days in between, except Wednesdays and Saturdays when I don't want any
milk.
My back door is open. Please put milk in 'fridge, get money out of cup
in drawer and leave change on kitchen table in pence, because we want
to play bingo tonight.
Please leave no milk today. When I say today, I mean tomorrow, for I
wrote this note yesterday.
milkman please put the coal on the boiler, let dog out and put
newspaper inside the screen door. P.S. Don't leave any milk.
No milk. Please do not leave milk at No. 14 either as he is dead until
further notice.
