Guest speaker was President Elect Don Tindale who shared the story of his recent cruise to NZ. Don attended the rotary Roundtable a few weeks ago which was very informative and interesting. RI have done a number of surveys around the world regarding increasing membership and ageing demographic within Rotary.
Public image of Rotary is still seen as 'boring farts' therefore many people are unaware that Rotary even has women members. Therefore Rotary needs to 'get with the times' and we should use social media effectively.
Our Adelaide Light club started with the wave of change which has been successful and our club members are used to change. Therefore we need to take the next step in the change process during the coming year. 2 key areas precluding Rotary from encouraging people to join, one is insistence at attendance at weekly meetings, the second was people wanted to be more involved in projects rather than attend meetings and in particular local projects. Perhaps we need to encourage new people to attend only 2 meetings a month and get more involved in projects. We also need to promote through Rotary group 1 clubs in terms of being mentors and coaches to young business people in Adelaide.
Change is inevitable, everything changes and if Rotary doesn't change, it will not be here therefore we need to think about who and what we are and how we can attract more people to join. Therefore we need to be more flexible.
Don's Personal theme for the new year is renewal.
Congratulations to Yvette Reade for winning the Irene Bell award for international women's day on 8th March
