The Ken March 9, 2020
Attendance: Bill Brucker
Split Club: Chuck Patterson
Fine Master: Phil Michalowski
Invocation: John Coogan
The Ken: Jeff Markarian
Dick filled in for Donna today at our old stomping grounds, The Ken-Ton Elmwood Commons, Formally Phillip Sheridan School. Barb Henry was in attendance and led us in a round of “America”. John Coogan gave our invocation. Our guests were John Duerr and Mike of the Ken-Ton Elmwood Commons, Mary Kate O’Connell of O’Connell & company Theater group and George Dolce who runs a catering business from here. George served us very nice lunch. However, chips would be nice. It’s not lunch without the crunch.
Mike Ford asked that we all fill out the survey from Dick that was emailed Monday. His team is getting the pulse of our memberships desire for lunch venue, time of day, a mixture of times and menus. Larry and Char are not able to attend Rotaract’s Slapshot (Student Leadership Award Program for students High on Training) weekend May 1-3. This is the first one they’ll miss in several years. Larry is asking for help driving the Kids to Canterbury Hills, Ancaster, CA Friday and pick up Sunday. This is a leadership weekend for our Junior High School aged future Rotarians. Pat had some notes for the club from Donna: District Governor Bb Artist will be attending our Satellite clubs meeting March 19, 7:30 am at Billegans. March 18, WNED will host the Erie County Health Ratings from 1-3 at WNERD. Cellino is sponsoring a Nonprofit truck wrap contest. Our Rotary district made the list of not for profits. Click on their link   www.cellinoplumbing.com/truckwrap to vote. Rotary Club of the Tonawanda’s are holding 3 community walks. Lastly, Greg Stevens and Kevin Crosby will be speaking to our club on April 20 with an update on the Greenway projects. Our last announcement was from Phil. Shred-It will be 4/25. Please help!!
Barb Henry won the split club and John Coogan missed the Ace.
Phil took over as our fine master. Confessions: Sue J is finally giving some love to her middle son and routed his Lancaster high School basketball team on to a win for the Championship beating Orchard Park basketball. Larry and Char attended Amherst East’s Bowl-a-thon as Fiona’s guest to raise money for the Interact club. Mike Ford found and returned a missing dog before our meeting. Chuck Patterson went to Jovi’s. Phil tested our knowledge about Daylight Saving Time.
Mike Ford introduced George Dolce. George rents the kitchen from Ken-Ton Elmwood Commons and runs his catering business from here. He served us lunch and would love for us to make this a habit. George can do anything and has a great team to help him. Contact George at www.gdolce@dolceamorecatering.com.  Mary Kate O’Connell gave us an update on her Theater company. They are very happy here. The auditorium / theater has been renovated to accommodate her tremendously. They rehearse here, eat here and perform here. John  gave us an update on Ken-Ton Elmwood Commons progress. It’s slower than they would like but is gaining momentum. They are going to turn the 2nd floor classrooms into apartments. The gymnastics company would like more space. Perhaps the basement. All and all this is a great business plan.
