lead us in prayer. Ron announced our guests, Matt Cook from Be Your Own Hero, and Dave
Burr a visiting rotation from Florida.
Cathy mentions that the Kenmore Service Club picnic is Thursday, July 21 and needs some
volunteers for Clean Up, cooking, set up…. We have 8 tickets available.
Steve and Brandon are organizing a Kenmore Rotary Bison Game on August 26. Tickets are
$12 per person. Friends and Family are welcome and encouraged to join. More information
to follow.
Ed Hacherl introduced the guest speaker Matt Cook the Executive Director of Be Your Own
Hero. He talked about that the organization helps bridge the gap between
students/graduates and employment. They have a big Job fair in late March early April
every year. Can always use funding and people being open mined about different carrier
paths other then just going to college.
Ron had Matt Cook pull the 50/50 Winner and it was Linda Sorka and the Ace of Spades and
Ron won that and picked the Ace of Clubs.
Cathy did trivia and talked about Blue Mind Day on July 23 and did trivia about water.
Donna ended the meeting at 1:23pm.
President Dick announced our speaker and former member, Shari McDonough from the
Boys and Girls
Club. She has been with them for 7 years now. The B & G Club was founded in 1927.
Currently there are
500 kids signed up for the summer programs. They recently received a grant from Charities
for
“Blessings in a back pack”, which fills backpacks with healthy snack for kids to take home
on the
weekends so they won’t go hungry. They requested grants from other clubs, but Kenmore
was the only
one to give. The majority of their income comes from private gifts, donors and families who
can afford
to send their kids. They recently started a mental health program where they will have a
mental health
counselor at every club several days a week. This is very important. The big check was then
presented to
Shari in the amount of $2,500 (she also received the real check). It was nice seeing Shari
back at our club
after 7 years! We also took this opportunity to present a check for $1,775 to Linda Sroka
from Schofield
Care for their grant requesting new kitchen necessities.
Dick won the split club of $16 and Bill Brucker picked the 10 of spades.
Cam confessed to attending 2 pit fires, one with Tom Lang (who’s he??). Tim Glor’s oldest
son moved
again, this time to Las Vegas! Rick Graham spent a couple of weeks in France and it was not
great. He
returned home with kidney stones. Yikes! Hope you’re feeling better Rick! Trivia questions
raised a few
bucks.
REMINDER: No meeting July 4 and July 11.
The foundation president, Chuck Patterson, had 3 notices sent out to the membership on
the slate of
officers for the upcoming board. President Dick announced them and took a vote. All are in
favor of the
2022-2023 Rotary Club of Kenmore Foundation Board of Directors.
