We started our meeting today with the Pledge. Chuck led us in signing “America” and John Coogan gave the invocation. Our only guest was John Duerr.
Donna started our program today by thanking Gary Roberts for hosting a fabulous social. It sounds like fun was had by all. Holly announced the Wine Event Sponsorships are up to $10,975 with 214 tickets sold. Only 20 baskets so far so please help manage that. The committee will have 4 or 5 special gifts items. A nice TV, $500 gift certificate for Markarian Rugs, A night out including tickets to an event at the Riviera theater, dinner at JT’s and a stay over at the Hotel Henry, 4 tickets to the Irish Classic theater and dinner at Jovis are some of the special items we will have to offer in this category. Then there will be a 50/50 raffle and sheets of tickets to enter into the basket drawings. The team is playing around with packaging these together to give the allusion of a better chance to win. Dick has Shred –It ready with signs, and social media advertising. This will be next Saturday. 10:00 – 2:00.
Our guest John Duerr won the split club and Holly missed the Ace. Before introducing our fine master, Donna welcomed Tom Lang in attendance. At this time, Holly took the floor. First confession was from Chuck Patterson. He gave happy dollars because Mary Kay was involved in a horrific accident and came out unscathed. Phew. Larry is still taking Slap Shot applications. Mike Ford took his 7 year old to Adventure Landing. Audrey is working with Kenmore West and East students to help out with the Green Way trails project. She will get us the dates and would love to see Rotarians helping out. Looking at 5/21. Rene fined herself $5 because she is turning 50. Rene, you are well preserved. John and Gary were fined for their antics at the Social. Let’s put it this way; they seem to be very fond of one another. Holly quizzed us on spring topics.
Larry introduced our speaker, John Duerr. John purchased the Philip Sheridan building from the school department. He made a successful bid and has cleared a public referendum. This will be a senior living Campus with multi use areas. The second floor will use the classrooms as apartments. Presently there is a day care with 100 students and Buffalo Turners Gymnastics with 150 kids. They hope to retain them. Buffalo Turners is even considering expanding. John would like to resurrect the auditorium to use for shows and concerts. John shared with us 1 obstacle they encounter. The survey showed there was an old tank buried with 6,000 gallons of old, unusable heating oil that had to be disposed of. That took many months. All and all, John is looking forward to transforming this building. Insightful program
