What a wonderful Rotary gathering last Saturday evening at the Garden of the Gods Club for Flight. The weather passed through quickly, the venue was wonderful, and the butterfly and silent auctions brought in much-needed money for the purpose of doing good.
Many thanks to Andrea Trout and Anya Kasischke for their leadership over the past year in putting this wonderful event together. Their team of Mike McGrath, Brittany Smaridge, Linda Crespin, Claudine Dickson, Maile Foster, Jason Aguilar, Ashley Lawrence, Rodney Gullatte, Charlie Brown, and many others deserve your personal thanks for a job well done. We also could not have done it without our Artist Ambassadors -- Cass Mullane and Andrea Box.

Rotarian Bob Holmes led a special tribute to Rotarian Leslie Cook with a "Raise the Paddle" auction that raised needed dollars for children's programs.
The live auction resulted in thousand of dollars in bids on the butterflies. I was on the phone with a couple just outside of Philadelphia who had the top bids on two butterflies. They had been in Colorado Springs in the summer, seen the butterflies, and decided that was something they needed for their yard.
How about the raffle? Rotarian Ed Baur of Kuni Lexus had his ticket drawn and returned "The Art of Science" butterfly to the live auction. Many thanks, Ed.
President-Elect Ron Rubin is already looking at next year's event -- planning meetings are in the works and we would welcome any of our membership to be a part of Flight 2017.
Our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Chris Grundner, will be at lunch on Friday -- ask him how his season on the Discovery Canyon HS tennis team has gone. What about the weekend in Durango?

What's going on with programs through the month of October?
- This Friday we welcome Patricia Yeager, CEO of the Independence Center, who will be introduced by Rotarian Timothy Gore. The Independence Center works to help those with disabilities live independently.
- Friday the 14th brings back Ted Luce, President/Partner Luce Research. Ted's topic is "Polling" which will bring us some insight into the polling process. I remember from when he was here before -- took his advice and I now answer the phone and take those polls.
- Richard Skorman, long-time downtown Colorado Springs entreprenuer, will visit with us on the 21st to provide the other side of the story regarding the Strawberry Fields land swap.
- Finally, Channel 13 Chief Meteorologist, Rachael Plath will join us on the 28th for some thoughts on why it's so difficult to forecast weather in the Pikes Peak Region and what can we anticipate this winter.
