   LHS Students of Month

Wow!!!  We had a full house today.

The Lincoln High Students of the Month, along with their Counselor Tom Kelly, were honored and were presented with certificates.  Al Frumpkin and Kim Stone from the Loomis Sunset showed up to observe how the Best Club in South Placer meets!  Bob Romness was at our meeting to encourage participation in the Tour de Lincoln. He sold quite a few tickets for his Fat Tire bicycle, and Kimberly won his drawing for a nice pastry. Roger Ueltzen accompanied Kris and Bob Murduck was a guest of Ed Page.  Our caterer lived up to her reputation and served a great meal. Dan and Sharon announced their 56th anniversary. We were pleased that Dorothy Voigt could attend; she won the daily raffle.

Club business: Our applications for District grants were submitted going for $1,100 to support our three RYLA participants at Camp Grizzly next year and $3,900 for scholarships.  Note that the club must also match these amounts in order to get the full grants from the District next year.   It was also announced that the Board had approved $5,000 to get the youth center going under The Axiom as proposed by Nathan Oates and Rich Lester of Emmaus Community Church at our meeting on April 9.

We have a number of upcoming activities that will challenge our volunteerism:
  • Wine Fest May 2. If you aren't signed up, contact Dan Johnson
  • Lincoln Community Blood Drive May 8 - Give Blood to Save a Life, and spread the word to your friends
  • Rotary Work Day at the Salt Mine May 9 - See slides for details
  • Tour de Lincoln Rest Stop at Ophir Road May 16.  See Ed Prokopik to volunteer.
  • Relay for Life Breakfast May 17. See Dan Johnson to volunteer.
Tony Asaro inspired us with his presentation on Character Building. He was recently honored with an award as Trainer of the Year, where he concentrates on training students and athletes on building character. His words are regularly echoed on his facebook page, and he offers to inspire on his O A K Tree of Life page.
  • O is for Optimism
  • A is for Attitude
  • K is for KIindness
He stressed that the most important play in life is the NEXT PLAY.   Don't concentrate on what just happened whether good or bad.  Learn from it and go on to make "the next play" much better.  Eliminate negativism and go for the positive. Thank you Tony for your inspiration.
