Presentation:
Jim Denham, called in at the last moment, did a fine job of introducing Juliet Dunn.

Juliet spoke with passion and enthusiasm about the Niagara Jazz festival. In its third year, this event takes place in both St Catharines and NOTL locations, on Civic Holiday weekend  (sadly the same dates as Ribfest, but we were assured that it won’t clash every year)
This year there are 25 venues and 150 musicians, and all kinds of jazz – we were told jazz has a huge umbrella. Juliet talked of some program highlights:
Jazz for the Ages – welcoming very young artists from last year’s competition
Jazz in the City – featuring Manteca, and the Dave Restivo Trio – the flagship presentation at the PAC
Jazz in the Vineyard – featuring Liberty Silver
Jazz on the River – a cruise featuring Dixieland – SOLD OUT!
For information on the whole program, please visit www.niagarajazzfestival.com And for Rotarians only, there is a Promo Code – ROTNJF2016
Jean Armitage warmly thanked Juliet for her presentation, and told her of the Having a Ball program, and the donation in her name.

Announcements:
President Cindy first thanked the Rotarian organizers for an exceptional golf tournament this week.
Secondly, she advised of the resignation, for work-related reasons, of  Steve Hudson and Don Robertson
Thirdly, we were told of a carefully staged increase in our dues to keep up with inflation, but the elimination of the lunch supplement – effective July, lunch will cost $16.

Incoming President George reported on a successful meeting with the Golf Club which should result in higher food quality. At the same time, he urged members to submit meal suggestions through board members to the Golf Club.

Peter Kudreikis reminded us of the president’s Dinner next Tuesday at 6pm at the Best Western – he has tickets. $45 each.

Special Presentation:

Mark Zammit presented a Paul Harris award to Sylvia Hlywka Brabson. For over 33 years, as a former music teacher and church music director, Sylvia has been volunteering her time and sharing her talent conducting a group of local, volunteer, amateur musicians who have become known as the Mandolin Orchestra of Niagara (MOON, for short). The Orchestra has participated in fundraisers for churches, schools and civic organizations.  Partnering with other groups and individuals Sylvia has provided the opportunity to expand the exposure to other cultures, instruments and styles as well. Sylvia also organized an intergenerational choral program with grandchildren of the orchestra members. For a life-long commitment to the community, to this country and to its great values, she has now been awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Birthdays:
Bill Cole and Ross Burns

Anniversaries:
Chris Bangham  - 25 years, sponsored by Dave McAdam

Happy Dollars:
John Crossingham, Lenore Klassen, Jurgen Knof, Chris Bangham, John Nitsopoulos, and Juliet Dunn were all happy people.

50/50:
Ken Taylor, in absentia! was a winner. He had the right ticket, (according to the table he had vacated) so an ace was drawn for him by Mark Zammit (who was sitting near the head table) who celebrated with his usual flair. But maybe we should take a look at the rules about being there when your number is called!

Next week:
