Fellow Rotarians and Friends of the Monadnock Rotary Club:

Our speaker for the week of January 31, 2016, was Brian Wallace who is the Executive Director of the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College.  For 50 years the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College has been a gathering place for artists, students, patrons, educators, scholars, and friends. The gallery has hosted excellent exhibitions of work by local, national, and international artists and designers, originated a broad range of innovative education and public programs, and fostered diverse connections across disciplines, communities, and generations.

Brian was appointed Executive Director in June, 2015.  His talk focused on the "state of the Gallery."  His essential task is to re-engineer the Gallery to make it more inviting and open and more appealing to both students and the general public.

Brian's priorities for the Gallery include reviewing the permanent collection in order to sort out the pieces, make available to the viewing publci the 150 photographs from their Andy Warhol collection, create a history of all of the art colonies in the Monadnock region, and make the Gallery more inviting and accessible to the public.

I would encourage everyone to visit the Gallery the next time you are in Keene.

Our next meeting will be February 9, 2016, at the Dublin Community Church starting at 7:30 AM.  Our speaker will be "Farmer John" who will describe his work introducing "gardening" to Conval students.  John Goodhue has the Invocation and Sue Copley has the Hat.
