Family Promise of Linn County Executive Director John Derryberry will speak to us at First Presbyterian Church to hear more about the non-profit, their mission and to do a service activity.
Family Promise of Linn County (FPLC) is a nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through compassionate care, hospitality and professional support. An affiliate of the national organization, FPLC was founded out of a need for shelter for the increasing number of local children facing homelessness. The organization began serving families in January of 2013. After a two year break to restructure the organization, FPLC is proud to once again be serving local families in 2018. The program re-opened its doors on February 11, 2018. At the core of Family Promise is the belief that families should stay together—not be separated—during the most difficult times in their lives. Families are hosted at local places of worship each night and spend their days at the day center, where they have access to showers, laundry and a place to look for jobs and permanent housing.
