Vocational Moment

As I tour our clubs in District 5240, I am very excited about the renewed emphasis in our very first Avenue of Service - VOCATIONAL SERVICE. This is completely in line with Rotary International's desire to reignite an interest in this service area in all clubs.

Here is a quick tip on how you can help your club re-energize Vocational Service and also help those prospective Rotarians learn more about your members when they visit. Simply do this: When a member addresses the President in a meeting, have them begin with: Their Name; Their Vocation. It would sound like this: "President Gary, this is Jim Bell, Wells Fargo Bank..."

That's it! Simple. Easy to do. At no cost! Over time as your members learn to do this, remember, it's to help prospective members become acquainted with your members, and to encourage all your members to benefit from each other when they do business. After all, who better to do business with than someone you know and who cares about you from your Rotary Family?

Andy Corliss led us in the Flag Salute.

Jeff Hata let us know that there would likely not be any parking in the Pavilion level next Thursday due to a paving project. We will be able to let people park on the Pavilion level if they are unable to navigate the stairs.

Rich Stewart went over the schedule for the Christmas Party and Vance Thompson asked for a few people to help with the set-up.

Husam Hishmeh reminded us about Rotaract's Can Tree Build for FoodShare on Saturday and the Children's Christmas Party at the City Center on Monday December 7th.

Judy Hoag passed out poinsettia delivery assignments.

President Bruce adjourned the meeting and asked everyone to drive safely while delivering poinsettias.

Many Rotarians from all three Ventura Clubs came out to support Rotaract at the City Center's Children's Christmas Party. It's been a busy 3 days for our Rotaractors!!!

Ventura Rotaract was busy at the Collections building a Can Food Tree for FoodShare! As you can see it was a record setting year for Can Food Trees. If you couldn't attend you really missed an impressive display of community involvement.

When Mariana Day moved in 1989 to the small beach town of Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico, she noticed that the surrounding rural areas struggled to maintain schools. And most children weren’t able to go beyond an eighth-grade education. Day, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Bahía de Jaltemba-La Peñita, in Nayarit, had started a local scholarship program before she joined Rotary. Called Changing Lives, the program provided students with high school tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and transportation. In addition, Rotary clubs from the United States and Mexico have been investing in the...
