Several Rotarians participated in a very successful trip to Tijuana October 7-8 to deliver donations and buy supplies for Ninos de la Promesa.

October 8th, Bill Kotz, Phil and Jenie Richmond, Emily Stickney, Tim and Judy Trujillo all headed to Tijuana to deliver donations collected by various Rotary members for the orphanage called Ninos de la Promesa.  Two cars loaded with supplies crossed the border--one was stopped.  Phil Richmond had to pull over for inspection and explain his tinted windows and his reasons for having a car load of toys with no children along for the ride.  Using his best powers of persuasion and his charm, Phil assured the border guards that he, Jenie and Bill were not dangerous and they were allowed to proceed.

Once at Ninos de la Promesa, some of the children helped to unload the donations, and we were able to finally meet the founders and driving force behind the orphanage, Connie and Tyler who have given so much so that so many children, who would otherwise be abandoned, can feel safe and loved, obtain an education and become successful adults.

Judy and Emily stayed behind to help with the unpacking and sorting as Bill, Phil, Jenie and Tim headed to WalMart for supplies.  Among the goods they returned with were a blender and a microwave as well as food and personal supplies.  There really isn't enough that can be said to fully explain all this orphanage does to help abandoned children.  We are proud to be a small part of what they accomplish and we're looking forward to returning and staying in touch with them to make sure their needs continue to be met.
