Join us on Zoom this week for an update on the club's efforts to improve lives in Guatemala. Our club's International service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe. In this area, Rotarians strive for the advancement of international peace and understanding through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of Service Above Self. International Service Projects are designed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in many lands.

Since 2014 members of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara have made annual (except for 2021) trips to Panajachel, Guatemala. Our partner organization in Guatemala is Mayan Families. Mayan Families works with the indigenous Mayan population in the highlands of Guatemala. Their mission is “to advance education, nutrition & health and economic development, through community-led initiatives which build on existing resources and knowledge in the Lake Atitlán region”. The work with Mayan Families has been our primary international project since 2014.

At the Club meeting on Friday, 2/4 Bill Dutton and Don Jack will be providing a quick overview of the work that our Club has accomplished so far in Guatemala. Erin Mooney, the Executive Director for Mayan Families, will be joining us via Zoom to give us an update on the work that Mayan Families is currently doing. We are currently planning to do our next working trip in the first half of 2022 and are looking forward to receiving this important update.
