Jazz BandStarting the year with a new website!

As we close out the Rotary year with our 11th annual Los Olivos Jazz and Olive Festival, the club's website is migrating from an old style, generic website to a new easy to maintain site that works on both computers and smart phones. State-of-the-art soon after the club was started in 2002, the old website was showing its age. It was hard to maintain, even by the webmaster who originally created it (with an instruction book on his lap as he learned HTML, PHP and JavaScript on the job). It was time to go.

Los Olivos Rotary has joined the majority of the Rotary clubs in District 5240 in using ClubRunner as our website provider.  More than 13 years after Charter President Dean Davidge created the original club website, the club is moving to a site that is integrated with both the District 5240 and Rotary International databases.  ClubRunner will make the club secretary's job much easier, this year and every year in the future, The webmaster's job will also be much easier. No longer is knowledge of HTML and PHP a requirement for the job. Anyone with reasonable computer skills will quickly master the back end of ClubRunner and be able to update contact on the fly. Publishing a newsletter is a snap.

There is one feature in the old website that ClubRunner can't handle however. It can't automatically send meeting announcements and reminders to the Rotarians who are to bring hors d'oeuvres, give the invocation, or be the greeter.  It can do it manually, but that requires someone to remember to send out the emails every week. For the foreseeable future, we plan to keep the old calendar in place although most members will never see it again. They will just see the weekly emails continue to arrive every Tuesday morning.

There are pages in the website that are accessible only to members. Use the link in the upper right corner to login every time you visit the site. The first time, you will need to enter your last name and email address. ClubRunner will send you a message allowing you to create a password for future logging in. If it will not let you in, call Dean or Judy for help.
