The Program Governor Frankle

Governor Nick Frankle joined the Rotary Club of Westlake Village Sunrise in 2002. He was club president in Rotary Year 2006-07. During his year as president, the club was selected the best medium club in District 5240 and the best large service organization in his home community of the Conejo Valley. Governor Frankle has held many Rotary offices, all with exemplary success, and he has received numerous awards for his leadership and living example of Service Above Self.

Governor Frankle was born in Washington, DC and grew up in the Maryland suburbs. He attended The Johns Hopkins University graduating with a BA in Physics. He worked summers as a computer programmer for NASA which led to an MS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and a lifelong career in information technology and telecommunications. He has managed large information technology projects for the US government and Fortune 500 companies. His very impressive career has literally taken him around the world.

Governor Frankle married Heather, his high school sweetheart, in February 1966. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2016. Heather was an outstanding Rotarian and, Rotary members around the world have been mourning Heather’s passing on December 23, 2016. We keep Governor Frankle and his family in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

Governor Frankle started by telling a story of a lady in a small Honduras village who said to him…every morning and night I prayed for help never knowing if it would come, but today it came. You and your Rotarians are God’s angels walking the earth….more to come.

Governor Frankle’s loving and giving family was not wealthy, but his father had the heart of a Rotarian and provided him with a model of service to others and doing good works. Rotary is a family that you can depend on and his Rotary family has supported him through this tough time. Service to others includes our members as well. As a Rotarian he and Heather have had a strong influence on their family. When their daughter announced that she needed to set a date for her wedding she asked her parents to please consult at their Rotary calendars and give her some dates.

Governor Frankle related some great Service Above Self stories, and reminded us that ONE Rotarian can do a Rotary Project…do the big projects that require the whole club, but remember it only takes one Rotarian to change the world one person at a time.

Governor Frankle pointed out that changing the world requires Time-Talent-Treasure. These resource elements are essential and demand that they be renewed generation after generation. The Talent in the Rotary Club of Bakersfield is a vast resource to the new Millennial Generation. QUESTION: If you were young and ambitious would you value being a member of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield realizing the wealth of knowledge, experience, wisdom and community connections sitting around each table? Please take the Time to mentor the young careers that are just making their mark in Bakersfield because they are the next generation of Rotarians.

Governor Frankle’s goal this year is for every Rotarian in District 5240 give a donation to the Rotary Foundation that was started with $26.50 ($540.34 in today’s economy) and it has grown to $1.5BIL and given $3BIL in grants and loans. This is the Treasure that goes with the Time and Talent. Back to Honduras…after the woman spoke to Governor Frankle he looked around and saw a 35,000 gallon tank standing next to a 250 foot clean water well, which was the catalyst for the medical clinic, new businesses and a much greater quality of life that is now a reality in this small Honduran village because Rotary International and Rotarians understood Time-Talent-Treasure! If You Can Dream It You Can Do It…
